Camping, Hiking, Snowfall...And a few moose!

I know this has been a long time coming in regards to updating my blog....Been very busy and by the time the school day ends, I just want to go home and not look at technology besides my TV, and on the weekends I sleep...A LOT! But aside from me being tired, I am having a blast up here. Last night it snowed like crazy...by this I mean there was about 2 inches on the ground. Today, however, it is raining and snowing which is melting everything. Either way, it is in the 30's and 20's now. Feels good! Soon, I will be able to buy my snowgo! Two weekends ago, I was able to go camping with Ruth Iten and her husband down river a bit. We rode for about an hour until we found a good spot right on the shore to set camp. We found a good spot that was relatively flat, set up the tent, and then we went out hiking on the tundra. I HATE hiking/walking on the tundra. It is an ankle breaker for sure. I feel three times right into blueberries. Those tasted great! Nice and sweet. We saw a few skulls and antlers from caribou long dead. After we finished hiking, we went back to camp and started a fire. We boiled water from the river and had soup and sausages. Both were tres good. While we were sitting there that night, a female moose came out of the willows across the river and was drinking and feeding for quite a few minutes until a boat went by. Sleep was tough to come by because it WAS cold out, but I don't regret it one bit. We heard spruce hen calling all night. They sound very similar to owls. I've been doing quite of fishing with Ruth, except for the past week because she pulled her net out due to the river freezing. The last time I went out with her, we got probably 20 sheefish, on top of the other fish. It was an amazing haul. She uses a gill net to catch the salmon, whitefish, sheefish, lingcod, etc. in the river. I do enjoy helping her. I get to catch fish, get fillets of them, drive a boat, and get out of the apartment and do stuff. Another interesting thing that happened last week was I almost got another puppy. Some of my students came up to my apt. one evening and told me a story of the puppy being left in box on the porch of the grocery story (by this time it was already below 32 degrees at night) and that they couldn't take the dog home because their dad's would shoot it. So I said that I would keep it for a while to see if I can get rid of it because I just don't have the time to deal with a puppy right now. She kept me up all night and I was not happy about that. She was extremely cute and a spitfire...I would have kept her if I could, but alas, it wasn't in the stars...
